We are excited to announce that the Talented Youth Summer Program (TYS@UST) will be held again in 2010 from 14 July to 4 August in HKUST campus. Jointly organized by HKUST and the Center for Talented Youth at Johns Hopkins University, and sponsored by Savantas Policy Institute, TYS@UST is targeted at top-ranking students who will have completed Grades 10 to 12 (or equivalent) and have the desire and motivation to develop their full potential.
Following past year’s success, TYS@UST will once again adopt the theme “Accelerated Societal Development through Science and Technology”, encouraging students to study and explore scientific discoveries and their profound impacts on our society. The 3-week credit-bearing residential program will allow participating students a chance to flex their intellectual muscles and broaden their horizons in a multicultural setting. Not only will students have the opportunity to extend themselves academically, they will also be able to interact with their peers from different backgrounds, and develop a global mindset through multicultural teamwork and collaborative learning. Together with a myriad of extramural activities and educational visits, TYS@UST will prove to be a one-of-a-kind holistic learning experience.
Detailed program information and application procedures are now available on our website at http://talent.ust.hk. Should you wish to receive copies of the program brochure and application form, please complete and return the attached Request Form. For further enquiries, please contact us by phone at (852) 2358 8464 or by email at talent@ust.hk.
Best Regards,
Secretariat of TYS@UST 2010

I have a list of all the students scheduled to take the test in January, and those that were pushed back to May. If you are on the May roster (check with me or online) you still have a chance to take it this weekend. See me to fill out a stand by registration for this month, and you can either cancel your test date in May, or keep it for another shot at a better score. I have only 20 books total, so if there is no book, you don’t test!

The UC Berkeley Summer program can allow you to live the college life and get university credit over the summer. 11th and 12th graders please check out the link for more information.
A representative from UC Berkeley will be at SCIS at 2:00 on Monday 12/7 to discuss the summer program they offer to grades 10-12. Students can receive college credits from UCB for use when they graduate. It may be a good opportunity to start a relationship with UCB. If interested in attending please come to Mr. Mason’s office at 1:45 on Monday.
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is coming on Thursday, 10:00am. If you want to attend the visit, tell your teacher ahead of time.
I have paper copies of October SAT results for those that took it (minus Jerry) If you want yours, come and get it. Most of you will see it on your MySAT in the Collegeboard website. If not, give CB a call and have them link your registration number (on the paper result form) to your email account. Registering by paper does not automatically put the results online in some cases.
Seniors, make sure that you send off your applications before the winter break. January deadlines are very close to when we come back from winter break. Don’t wait that long to send off your apps. Once you have your colleges on Naviance, I can add all the supporting documents you need (transcript, letters of rec.) If I have to mail them off, it will take some time, so lets get it done before the December break.
Rec’s need to be done, so make sure that your teachers know that you requested them….ask face to face and request on Naviance. Fill out the teacher rec form under the 12 tab on my page. Give it to them so they can make a great rec for you. Don’t delay, every senior wants rec’s so your teachers are going to be busy.
