  • Janna Gibson
    Georgia State University
    Grade 2 Teacher
    Hongqiao Lower School
Originally from the United States, my roots are in upstate South Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia. I branched out to Asia in 2011 where South Korea was my first post. I spent three years there and consider Seoul my foreign home town. I most recently lived in Laos where I was trained and practiced the IBPYP at Vientiane International School. I left with more knowledge in the IB programme, the ability to ride a motorbike, and some wonderful friendships. I come to Shanghai full of exuberance in facing getting to know the students, parents, and colleagues of a new school, exploring a new city, and discovering the culture of a new country. When I’m not teaching, I’m a lover of photography, letter writing, sauntering with no destination, interior design, travel, cooking brunch, podcasts, and discovering new music. I hope to be a risk-taker while in Shanghai and try to learn new skills – namely Mandarin and swing dancing. I’m eager to meet the SCIS community and look forward to seeing you on campus.

Greetings!  My name is Jenni Marotto, and I’m so excited to be joining the SCIS team!  While I was born and raised in New Jersey, I called Dallas, Texas home before moving overseas. I’ve been working in education professionally for the past 8 years, both domestically and abroad.  I’ve had the opportunity to work with curriculum development, program coordination, and in my favorite position, teaching!  Most recently my husband and I came from Hanoi, Vietnam where we taught at St. Paul American School Hanoi.  The last 2 years I taught 2nd and then 3rd grade, investigating the development of second language learners in a loop setting.  I was thrilled that my students were so successful!  I am eager to bring those skills here as an ESOL teacher to help the students of SCIS achieve success as we all grow and learn together! In my free time I enjoy traveling, cooking on the grill, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.  My favorite animals are elephants, monkeys, and tropical penguins!
