  • Heather KNIGHT
University of Wisconsin, Mercery University, Central Michigan University
    Vice Principal
    Hongqiao Early Child Education Campus
Welcome to SCIS! This will be my third year at the ECE campus working with our youngest learners and their families. For the last 19 years, I have taught in the US as well as international schools in South America, Europe and the Middle East before moving to Shanghai. While I have had the pleasure and privilege of working in many schools at various grade levels, none have offered the unique experience of our ECE campus. In addition to my extensive classroom experience, I hold a Reading Specialist, a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and an ESL certification. I love learning and am always looking for ways to improve my understanding of child development, the ways in which children learn and the most current teaching practices. I am excited to be returning to my role as the ECE Campus Vice Principal and believe my years of education and experience will enable me to continue to support our students and faculty! When I am not working, I enjoy reading, running, cycling and practicing yoga. My weekends are spent exploring Shanghai and all this great city has to offer.
  • Jessamine Koenig
University of Tulsa , SUNY Buffalo State & Nova Southeastern University
    Upper School Principal
    Hangzhou International School
I am originally from the United States, but I have called China my home for the last decade. Born in Washington State, I grew up loving soccer and reading, both activities that led to my future career in education. After moving to Oklahoma in my early teens, I attended the University of Tulsa on a soccer scholarship, where I played defender. There I majored in English Literature and Secondary Education. I have continued my life-long learning with a Master’s Degree from SUNY Buffalo State and am currently working on an Ed.D. through Nova Southeastern in Instructional Leadership. I began teaching English and coaching girls’ soccer at the club team, high school varsity level, and Olympic Development level in Oklahoma before coming to China the first time on a Freeman Foundation grant. Following that introduction to China, I returned for two more years, working as an exchange program teacher in Anhui and Henan provinces for the National Committee on US China Exchange program.   I first joined the SCIS-HIS community in 2008 as an Upper School English teacher at the Hongqiao campus. During my tenure in Shanghai, I was at various times a teacher, CAS Coordinator, Grade Level Leader, Student Council Advisor, IB Diploma Programme Coordinator, and High School Vice Principal. The various roles have provided me with an understanding of students from multiple perspectives and professional development for my current role as the Hangzhou International School Upper School Principal.

  • Jenna Lelievre
    George Brown College
    Nursery Teacher
Hello! My name is Jenna Lelievre and I first joined SCIS in 2015 along with my husband, who is the High School Principal of the Hongqiao campus. I grew up in Niagara Falls, Canada and then attended George Brown College in Toronto. Soon after, my husband and I moved to Hong Kong. This adventure that started as a two-year plan, would last ten memorable years, where I taught in an International Kindergarten and had our children, who also attend SCIS.  After moving to Canada for a few years, we felt drawn back to Asia, and accepted exciting positions in Bangkok. Teaching at the Early Learning Centre—which follows a Reggio Emilia approach—gave me an insight into the ways toddlers approach and discover the newness of their world. I feel very privileged to be building on those experiences and be a part of young children’s rich beginnings at SCIS!
  • Barclay Lelievre

I am extremely excited to be part of the team that will help bring the MYP to SCIS and especially to the high school over the next two years. My wife Jenna will be teaching at the ECE Campus and our family are looking forward to getting to know Shanghai and China.

  • Jemma Liu
    University of Derby
    Pre-school Teacher
    Hangzhou International School
I spent my youth living on Royal Air Force bases in Germany and Cyprus before moving back to England. Having often changed schools myself, I always wanted to do something with my life to help make children feel happy and comfortable and keep that passion for learning and discovering alive. I have found that in teaching Early Years. Originally from the UK, Hangzhou has been my home since 2011. Before that, I completed a BTEC in performing arts and then graduated from the University of Derby with a B.A in Dance and Movement studies with the Healing Arts. I also hold qualifications with Early Years and Special Educational Needs (SEN). My time spent working with children and teenagers with SEN and leading performing arts workshops in after school programs have really shown me how a good teacher can impact a child’s life long after they finish school. I love learning about new cultures and experiencing life. In my spare time I can usually be found either with my head in a book, learning Chinese or trying out a new restaurant or recipe! I love to travel and enjoy sharing stories with other like minded people.
  • Patricia Long
Atlantic Baptist College (now Crandall University) & University of East Anglia
    Upper School Vice Principal
    Hangzhou International School
Hello, All! My name is Pat Long, and I am delighted to be a member of the HIS community, serving as your Upper School Vice Principal. I was born and raised in Nova Scotia, Canada, and moved to the UK after completing my degree to undertake my teacher training. After nineteen years as a teacher and senior administrator in schools across England and Wales, I relocated to Songdo, South Korea for five years at my first international school. I am still astounded by how lucky I am, to be doing a job I love in places that allow me to learn so much. My teaching background is in English and History, and I am an energetic and active practitioner, still occasionally acting out Shakespeare scenes from the tops of tables. My real love, however, is pastoral care; supporting young people (teenagers especially) as they negotiate their way through the complexities of schooling and personal development.
