Greetings SCIS-Pudong community! Originally hailing from the Great Lake State of Michigan, I moved to China in 2004, where I began my career as an international educator at the American International School of Guangzhou (AISG). During my tenure at AISG I worked as an ESL and Homeroom Teacher for students in Kindergarten through Grade 6. Additionally, I served as the Primary Years Program (PYP) Curriculum Coordinator for two years prior to becoming the Elementary Assistant Principal. I am ecsatic to be now serving as the SCIS-Pudong Lower School Principal. I hold a bachelor’s degree in English and Psychology from the University of Michigan, as well as a master's degree in Elementary Education. Currently, I am in the final stages of completing my Doctoral Degree focused on Educational Leadership. As the educational leader of the Lower School, I strongly believe that every child is capable of learning and thus deserves the right to develop his/her highest potential in a safe, nurturing and happy environment, an environment that respects and values the capabilities of all individuals. I am confident that by working together with parents, teachers and students we can further develop a powerful community of lifelong learners.

My name is Shelly Garza and I teach MYP Language and Literature at the Hongqiao campus. I was raised a "third culture kid” in Ethiopia, Italy and Indonesia, and I believe it provided me with the world citizenship values I now hold dear. I studied English at the University of North Texas and Education at the University of Texas Pan American. After five years working in public schools in the U.S., my daughter and I travelled to Cameroon, where I taught a variety of subjects for three years. We then moved to Russia, where I taught middle school Humanities for four years, and then to the United Arab Emirates, where I taught grade 7 English and Social Studies for six years. I am thrilled to now call my home Shanghai and to be part of the wonderful SCIS community.

    Counselor
    Hongqiao Early Child Education Campus
Marella Gregory comes to us from her Country of origin - the United States of America. Born and raised in eastern Pennsylvania, Marella moved to western PA for college where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She's spent most of her adult life as an educator in Richmond, Virginia where she taught, counseled, and earned a Master's Degree in Counseling Education from Virginia Commonwealth University and certification from Atlantic University as a Spiritual Guide and Mentor. She is a published author on the subject of Character Education for very young children and on Mindfulness in Education. Recently, she became certified as an International Teacher Trainer with the Center for Teacher Effectiveness. Marella and her husband, John of 26 years, raised two daughters, Alden and Kyra. While the Gregory family loves, owns, and foster a variety of dogs, Marella values her two-legged less hairy friends as well. They are more supportive (than the pups) of Marella's leaving the US to work at SCIS, where she is excited for the opportunity to experience a new culture, make new friends, and immerse herself in the role of Early Childhood Education Counselor in support of international education of which she has long been a fan. She is especially looking forward to finding pockets of nature tucked away in the exciting city of Shanghai.
